UPDATE (revised 3 p.m. 2/24/17): Ranch Hand Rodeo Weekend is fast approaching! Due to the recent outbreaks of equine herpes and strangles in Nevada and surrounding areas, the Ranch Rodeo Committee is working with the state veterinarian with the Nevada Department of Agriculture, as well as our event veterinarians to insure proper precautionary procedures are in place. Although no local or immediate threat has occurred in Winnemucca, we would like to be proactive.
At the recommendation of the veterinarians, we are instituting a mandatory Health Certificate within 72 hours of travel for all equines entering the facility. Health Certificates for out-of-state horses BY LAW REQUIRE a negative Coggins. All horses entering the grounds will also go through a check-in and temperature check to aid in halting the spread of the disease.
Prior to entering the facility, horses MUST be checked in through the check station that will be setup at the West end parking lot. Check-in times will be strictly followed and facility entry will be closed outside of those hours. We will update you with those times. For local horses in need of health certificates, contact Zimmerman Veterinary Services at 775-623-0981 or Dr. Katie Estill at 775-623-9133.
We thank all of you for your cooperation and look forward to another great event!
